  • Director: William Lau
  • Year: 2004

Overview

Princess Anneliese is betrothed to a king to save her bankrupt kingdom, but she loves her tutor Julian. Erika is a poor seamstress working to pay off her debts who looks exactly like the princess. When the advisor Preminger kidnaps Anneliese to seize power, Julian asks Erika to impersonate her. Erika fits into the royal role, but Preminger exposes the swap and locks both girls in a mine. They work together to escape, expose Preminger's mining fraud, and marry the ones they actually love. They don't let their class differences stop their success.

Takeaways

The kingdom's money trouble starts because Preminger is secretly stealing from the royal gold mines. Since Erika and Anneliese look exactly alike, they can pull off a quick swap to keep the royal court running while the princess is missing. Preminger relies on keeping everyone in the dark while he hoards all the wealth. Erika's act as the princess keeps the alliance with the neighboring king from falling apart right away. Once they catch Preminger stealing the gold, the kingdom is saved, and the girls can finally marry the guys they actually love instead of being forced into partnerships.
