Overview
Ashitaka is a young prince who is cursed while defending his village from a demon beast. He travels west to find a cure, arriving at Iron Town, an industrial settlement led by Lady Eboshi. Eboshi is clearing the surrounding forest to mine iron, putting her in direct conflict with the forest gods and San, a human girl raised by wolves. Ashitaka tries to mediate between the two sides, but the conflict escalates when the Emperor orders the decapitation of the Forest Spirit. Ashitaka and San retrieve the head and restore the land, though Iron Town must rebuild.
Takeaways
The battle between Iron Town and the forest shows the struggle between human progress and saving nature. Lady Eboshi isn't just a villain; she built a community that takes care of outcasts and workers who have nowhere else to go, even if it means destroying the woods. The forest spirits fight back fiercely because their home is being destroyed. Ashitaka tries to find a middle ground because he knows that wiping out one side will destroy them both. In the end, they learn that they can't survive without respecting the natural world.
