Overview
Anna suffers from asthma and feels isolated from her foster parents, so she travels to a seaside town for better air. She spends her days exploring the coastal marshes and discovers a grand, seemingly abandoned mansion. There she meets Marnie, a mysterious girl who lives in the house and offers instant friendship. They share secrets and stories, but Marnie keeps disappearing whenever the tide rises or others approach. Anna tries to figure out if Marnie is real or just a product of her own mind. As Anna uncovers old family diaries and talks to locals, she realizes Marnie is actually her late grandmother.
