Takeaways

The Phantom uses his knowledge of the opera house's secret passages to terrorize the staff and control the theater. The new managers don't take his demands seriously, which leads to disaster since they underestimate how much influence the Phantom has over Christine's talent. Christine is caught between her love for Raoul and her pity for her mysterious teacher. Ultimately, it isn't force that stops the Phantom, but Christine's act of genuine compassion that finally breaks his obsession and lets everyone move on.
