Overview
Greg Focker and his fiancΓ©e Pam travel with her parents, Jack and Dina, to Florida to meet Greg's parents, Bernie and Roz. Jack is a retired CIA agent who keeps a tight control on his family using polygraphs and surveillance. Greg's parents are relaxed, expressive, and unconventional, which immediately clashes with Jack's structured world. Jack suspects Greg is hiding secrets and uses his spy gear to monitor the Fockers. After several misunderstandings, Jack realizes he can't control everything and accepts the marriage. He doesn't want to lose his daughter.
Takeaways
The film clashes Jack's uptight, CIA-style paranoia with the Fockers' laid-back, free-spirited lifestyle. Jack tries to run background checks and watch the Fockers like a hawk to see if they are good enough for his daughter. But the Fockers' open and honest way of living completely throws Jack off, showing him that you can't run a family like a government agency. Jack's constant spying and lack of trust almost ruin the wedding. The family only comes together when Jack accepts that he can't control everyone's life and decides to trust his daughter's choice.
