Overview
Chihiro is a young girl moving to a new town with her parents when they take a wrong turn. They end up in an abandoned theme park where her parents are turned into pigs. Chihiro discovers she's in a spirit world ruled by the witch Yubaba. She has to work in Yubaba's bathhouse to survive and find a way to free her parents. She meets Haku, who helps her navigate the bathhouse's rules. She works hard, earns the respect of the spirits, and solves the mystery of Haku's identity to win her freedom.
Takeaways
The bathhouse is a tough place to work, especially since the witch Yubaba steals her employees' names to keep them under her thumb forever. Chihiro only survives because she's willing to roll up her sleeves and learn the ropes. The monster No-Face shows what happens when greed gets out of hand, growing bigger and wilder as he feeds on the bathhouse's love for gold. Chihiro is the only one who doesn't get corrupted because she refuses to take his easy money. In the end, it's her loyalty and kindness that help Haku remember his real name and break Yubaba's spell.
