Overview
Mia has graduated college and is ready to take the throne of Genovia. A member of parliament challenges her right to rule, pointing out an old law that says a princess must marry to become queen. Mia has thirty days to find a husband or lose the crown to Lord Devereaux. She gets engaged to an English duke, but she finds herself attracted to Devereaux's nephew Nicholas. As the wedding approaches, Mia realizes she shouldn't marry for a law and convinces the parliament to change the rule for everyone.
Takeaways
Genovia's old-fashioned laws create a huge mess when Mia is forced to find a husband in just thirty days to claim her throne. A greedy rival tries to use this outdated rule to steal the crown for his nephew, Nicholas, who actually falls in love with Mia along the way. Mia rushes into an engagement to save her future, but she eventually realizes she can't marry just to satisfy a silly law. By standing up in front of parliament and demanding they change the rule, she proves that leaders should be judged on their character and ability, not their marital status.
