Overview
Shizuku is a fourteen-year-old girl who loves reading. She notices that all the library books she borrows have been previously checked out by a boy named Seiji. She eventually meets Seiji, who is training to become a master violin maker. Inspired by his dedication to his craft, Shizuku decides to test her own abilities by writing a fantasy novel. She spends weeks researching and writing, neglecting her schoolwork and worrying her parents. After completing her draft and receiving feedback from Seiji's grandfather, she realizes she needs to continue her education to refine her writing skills.
Takeaways
Shizuku and Seiji both show that finding your passion is only the first step, and the real work comes from committing to it. Seiji's dedication to violin making shows that mastering a craft takes years of patient practice and learning from a teacher. By throwing herself into writing her first novel, Shizuku pushes herself to the limit and experiences the exhausting reality of creative work. She eventually learns that she doesn't have to choose between school and her dreams. Instead, she realizes that finishing her education will actually give her the tools and depth she needs to become a much better writer.
