Overview
Shrek is an ogre who wants to live alone in his swamp, but his peace is disrupted when Lord Farquaad banishes fairytale creatures there. Shrek makes a deal to rescue Princess Fiona so he can get his land back. He travels with a talkative donkey and finds Fiona in a dragon-guarded tower. He doesn't know she has a curse that turns her into an ogre at night. Fiona expects a traditional prince, but she starts falling for Shrek. The truth comes out, and Shrek stops her wedding to Farquaad just in time.
Takeaways
Farquaad dumping fairytale creatures into Shrek's swamp shows how one person's selfish decisions can mess up someone else's quiet life. Shrek only agrees to rescue Princess Fiona because he wants his peace and quiet back, but the journey ends up changing him. Fiona's secret transformation shows that people are rarely as simple as they look, and hiding who you really are just leads to misunderstandings. Farquaad is so obsessed with rules and looking perfect that he misses out on actual connection. Ultimately, Shrek finds out that letting people in is much better than living completely isolated.
