Rise of the Guardians

  • Director: Peter Ramsey
  • Year: 2012

Overview

Jack Frost is a mischievous spirit who has no memory of his past and is invisible to humans because they don't believe in him. He is chosen by the Man in the Moon to join the Guardians: North, Bunnymund, Tooth, and Sandy. They must stop Pitch Black, the bogeyman, who wants to replace children's belief with fear. Jack must find his own memories and help the Guardians defeat Pitch to protect the children.

Takeaways

The Guardians get their strength and visibility directly from the belief and wonder of children around the world. Pitch Black attacks them by trying to replace their sweet dreams with nightmares, hoping to make kids forget the Guardians exist. Jack Frost starts out as a lonely outsider who doesn't think he fits in with legendary figures like Santa or the Easter Bunny. But the battle is really about keeping hope alive for the kids, who keep the magic of childhood going. Jack helps win the day by discovering his own purpose, proving that having a unique voice can save the day when the old ways aren't enough.
